Mississippi Today reported on March 10, 2026 that the Mississippi permit board approved xAI/MZX Tech's application for 41 permanent gas turbines in Southaven to power xAI's data center operation across the state line and a recently announced Southaven center. Mississippi Today later reported on June 16, 2026 that xAI and the Justice Department asked the court to dismiss the NAACP lawsuit over unpermitted mobile turbines; recent court filings put the temporary turbine count at 57, and xAI was using the mobile turbines until a permanent power plant is finished, expected early next year according to court documents. Reuters Connect reported on July 13, 2026 that newly installed power lines from xAI's Southaven turbine facility were photographed on May 30, 2026 and described xAI as running nearly 60 turbines without permits.
