One of five Stargate data centers being built by OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank. Approved by Doña Ana County commissioners 4-1 vote on September 19, 2025 after hours of public comment. Will create 750 permanent jobs and $300 million in direct payments to county. Significant community opposition due to water concerns in arid region. Project will have dedicated microgrid independent from El Paso Electric grid. Selected from over 300 proposals across 30+ states. UPDATE (Dec 2025): New Mexico Environment Department ruled air quality applications ‘incomplete’ on December 19, 2025, with January 19 deadline for additional information. Environmental concerns focus on 14+ million tons annual CO2 emissions.
