Up to six buildings planned near Duane Arnold Energy Center nuclear site
Six-building complex proposed near Duane Arnold Energy Center. Site attractive for potential power access if nuclear plant restarts by 2028. Located approximately 20 miles north of Cedar Rapids facility.. Linn County approved a data center ordinance for unincorporated Linn County on February 18, 2026 after public hearings and three readings. The ordinance requires large data center projects to complete a water study, sign a Water Use Agreement, sign an Economic Development Agreement, and address setbacks, noise, traffic, emergency planning, lighting, waste management, and road use. Linn County's project page ties this work to the proposed large-scale Google data center near Palo and says Google had indicated willingness to fund a water resources and water balance study. Status remains planned; this is a material entitlement/regulatory requirement, not a construction start.
