Google Project Tembo (formerly Crusoe/Tallgrass Project Jade)

Google is the confirmed owner behind Wyoming’s largest data center build. A June 30, 2026 site-plan amendment filed with Laramie County — not a company announcement — revealed that Google, acting through subsidiary Jupiter Star Holdings, LLC, owns and will operate the campus formerly known as Project Jade, now renamed Project Tembo. At full scale it would use roughly five times more electricity than all homes in Wyoming combined.

Power Sourcing

Tallgrass Energy blends Black Hills Energy grid capacity, fuel cells, and its own generation, delivered to the campus through a dedicated substation. Despite earlier “bring-your-own-power” positioning, the project is grid-tied rather than fully off-grid. Site plans describe on-site wastewater treatment with evaporative lagoon storage after a connection to Cheyenne’s municipal system was deemed not cost-effective.

Campus

The 716-acre campus, about 8 miles south of Cheyenne on land formerly used for seasonal cattle grazing, includes four data center halls, an office hub, logistics and network buildings, and new access roads off U.S. 85. A further 32.83-acre office support parcel entered permitting in July 2026, with a Laramie County Commission hearing set for August 13, 2026.
